“My 96-year old grandmother can’t afford the additional prescription coverage under Medicare and was borrowing medication from my father to tide her over. This is not a destitute older person without family and resources. The health care system in the US has shut her out. This is not unusual and happens to others who have been laid off from a job or are self employed. Insurance carriers are looking for reasons to deny coverage to force people into a higher rate class that is hugely expensive ($325 per person). We are in for a true health care crisis that will exclude all but the wealthy or corporate deep pockets.
